After several months' work, the Département du Calvados is now providing its operator, Ports du Calvados, with a refurbished careening area for more environmentally-friendly boat maintenance at Port Guillaume, in the départemental port of Dives-Cabourg-Houlgate.
The old Port-Guillaume area dated back to the 1990s and no longer met today's environmental standards. The new facility will enable users to carry out easier, more environmentally-friendly boat maintenance. The work undertaken by the Département du Calvados included extending the area and laying asphalt on the adjoining parking lot.
On completion of the work, the technical area will have 19 berths (compared with 15 previously), which can be used either for minor maintenance work or for careening (up to a limit of 4 boats per day or 100m2 of careened hull).
After seven months of construction (including the preparation period), on July1, 2025, the Département du Calvados transferred the equipment to its operator, Ports du Calvados, to be made available to users from July 7.
Type of work
The work consisted of :
- Installing an underground retention tank (earthworks, sheet piling and piles, installation of the tank, reinforced concrete slabs on the surface, etc.);
- Implement a treatment system consisting of a settling tank, a sand filter, a carbon filter, tertiary treatment of tributyltin (TBT), a device for treating rainwater from the platform, a settling tank and a hydrocarbon separator;
- Construction of the technical/caravanning area (demolition of existing pavements, earthworks, surface concrete, etc.);
- Build all the networks dedicated to the careening area (lighting, electrical bollards, water supply, etc.);
- Secure work areas with fencing and gates;
- Refurbish the parking lot adjacent to the area (asphalt, road markings, etc.).

Companies and financing
The LM Ingénierie / ACEMO consortium was responsible for project management, while OCELIAN was responsible for civil engineering and the careening water treatment unit, and EUROVIA for the careening area and adjacent parking lot.
The total cost of the project is around one million euros (excluding VAT), financed by the Département du Calvados, with financial assistance from the Seine-Normandie water agency.
