Snsm
This omnipresence of the marine environment makes the SNSM a key local player.
The crew is watching over you and is ready to come to your aid if necessary (tel. no. 196).
The recommendations of the Sauveteurs en Mer (lifeguards at sea) for taking to the open sea:
Check the weather forecast in advance, carry a liferaft and updated lifejackets, attach a horseshoe buoy to the aft balcony, carry a pair of gloves to avoid burning yourself if hand-held lights go off, stow a boat hook in the companionway, carry an anchor and switch on VHF channel 16.
The ultimate tip is to pack a waterproof rucksack with the following equipment: charged waterproof flashlight and portable VHF, knife, 3 distress flares, fluorescein, survival cakes and TPS (survival suit).
For offshore sailing, we strongly recommend the World Sailing course.
